Palau is an archipelago located 7 degrees North of the equator and 134 degrees East of the Prime Meridian. Often referred to as South Pacific, being North of the equator she is part of the North Pacific. Palau separates the Pacific Ocean from the Philippine Sea. Palau's waters are warm and full of life from the smallest to the largest and in large quantities. Southwest of Yap, Palau  politically,  is the closest country aligned with the US, much closer than England or Israel. English is the primary language and the US dollar is their currency. The air temp does not drop below 77° degrees F (25° Celsius) and the water lo is 84° degrees F (29° C). The water is clear (for the most part) and it is full of everything you want to be in the water with: Sharks, dolphins, manta rays, turtles, Napoleon Wrasse, thousands of schooling jacks and barracuda, etc. The Palauans are very friendly to Americans. In March of 1944 (30th and 31st) and July (25-27) US Naval forces sank over 40 Japanese military vessels in operation Desecrate One and Operation Snapshot. The wreck diving is considered second to Truk (Chuuk). Both locations needed to be rendered clear of military shipping before MacArthur could attack the Philippines. The country is a carbon copy of the US government, with States and governors and the 3 sections of power, etc. There is a tremendous bureaucracy with 16 states for less than 20,000 people and all the government associated with a state. Huge amounts of foreign aid are required to run this small country. The infrastructure is very weak. There are some great places to eat.
